Homemade Lotion Bars
These lotion bars are great for anytime of the year, especially during winter - making them amazing Christmas gifts!
Directions & Ingredients
First, measure an equal amount in ounces for the coconut oil, beeswax and shea butter. For instance, I used 5 oz each of coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax, plus one ounce of a carrier oil, to produce four 4-ounce lotion bars (a total of 16 oz).
Next, heat the ingredients in a double boiler or a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of water (see video for what I use). Once the oils and beeswax have melted, take it off the heat and allow it to cool for a few minutes before adding in your essential oils and one ounce of carrier oil (this can be a olive oil, avocado oil, or even jojoba oil).
Pour any essential oils in that you want. I typically do a blend of whatever Skin Balm Apothecary essential oils I have on hand.
I would suggest doing 50 lavender and 50 orange if you want a lavender orange light scent. Add more if you feel like you want it stronger. Another popular blend is 25 orange, 25 lemon, and 50 lavender.
Pour the lotion into bar molds and place them in the refrigerator until they solidify. Once solid, take the bars out of the molds and store them in an airtight container until ready to use or give as a gift.

I bought the mold from a local Hobby Lobby. Try and get your beeswax local if you can. If not, you can buy the beeswax from an Amazon source. I will try to get a United States supplier. For the Shea butter, you can also get that on Amazon. I highly recommend getting unrefined, raw, organic shea butter. Coconut oil and olive oil can be found in your local grocery store.
